Alright, so you're here. And you're probably thinking, ‘Another Halloween event? Another pumpkin trail?’ And honestly, for a long time, that's exactly what it was. Mundane. Predictable. Expected.

But at FAR, we don't do 'expected'.
We do magical.
We do transformative.
We believe that the human experience, even something as timeless as a walk in the woods during autumn, can be fundamentally reimagined.
Imagine this: Bolton Abbey. Strid Wood. A place steeped in history, in natural beauty. And yes, for years, a perfectly lovely pumpkin trail. You walk, you see pumpkins, and you solve a little puzzle. Fine. Good even.
But what if you didn't just see the pumpkins? What if you interacted with the very fabric of the woods? What if the path itself became an intelligent guide, responding to your presence?
That's what we've done. We've taken the familiar, the beloved Bolton Abbey Pumpkin Trail – from Saturday, October 25th to Sunday, November 2nd, 2025, by the way – and we've injected it with pure innovation.
You'll still enter through those giant spooky gates. You'll still follow the incredible, hand-carved pumpkins. But this year, as you navigate from the Cavendish Shop up to The Strid, your world changes. We've integrated augmented reality, seamlessly weaving the digital into the physical. This isn't just a map on your phone; this is wayfinding that feels intuitive, almost telepathic, guiding you through the ancient trees.
And those mystery boxes along the way, with their clues to solve the puzzle? They're no longer just static objects. They're portals. Portals to interactive AR digital content. Imagine uncovering a hidden spirit flickering between the leaves, or a mischievous ghoul whispering the next riddle directly into your world, right there in the woods.
FAR enhanced this experience with AR-placed content, including:
- Wayfinding (Without the reliance on Maps)
- Interactive AR digital content
- Bridging the physical and digital worlds
 - Transforming physical experiences into the digital realm
Key benefits to FAR’s technology being involved:
- Increased engagement
- Enhanced experience
- Generation of behavioral data collected anonymously (helps inform activity and positioning/order of activities in further years)
 - Provides white label option for other ‘holiday’-driven experiences, such as Christmas, Easter, and even ‘character-themed’ events such as Alice in Wonderland
